Record Breaking Year for WestJet Is Good News for Travelers

Discount Yellow Jacket 93560 SuperEvac – With Calgary based airline WestJet breaking records in 2011, passengers looking to get away should be confident in getting a great deal on flights in Canada and other top vacation destinations. How does the success of WestJet reflect consumer confidence? And what does this have to do with cheap flights? Let me explain.

WestJet hit record passenger traffic in December 2011 with a load factor of 80.9% tying the airline’s second highest ever. WestJet also broke two other records in December by flying 1.4 million passengers for the month, and on December 23rd they flew approximately 53000 guests achieving a new single day record. Compared to 2010, the airline with a fleet of almost 100 aircraft flew an additional 867000 passengers in 2011 to over 70 domestic and international destinations. WestJet also experienced (due to the strong bookings in December), an 8% increase in traffic and a 7.1% growth in capacity. The growth and success of WestJet in December 2011 is a direct result of holiday travel with Canadians flying domestically to visit family and also fleeing to warmer destinations.

Besides being one of the top airlines, they also have an impressive product lineup of cheap all-inclusive packages through their sister company WestJet Vacations. By being able to depart from over 30 cities in Canada to their sun destinations in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Mexico and The Caribbean, Canadians have more flexibility when traveling south which in turn also leads to more choices of last minute vacations. With WestJet increasing capacity and traffic, it can lead to higher profitability and therefore a more favourable response is generated in the public eye when booking their next all-inclusive package.
